The Grammy winner recently inked a talent deal with NBC Entertainment.
NBC is shooting a talk-show pilot with The Voice star Kelly Clarkson that would potentially be shopped for a fall 2019 debut, confirmed sources close to the company.
Clarkson has a talent deal with NBC Entertainment, which now oversees NBCUniversal Television Distribution, including all first-run development for TV stations. That said, the show could potentially be offered to TV stations in syndication or it could air on another platform or in combination.
Earlier this year, Clarkson began a run on The Voice, starring alongside other judges Adam Levine, Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton with her team and her hand-selected talent, 15-year-old Brynn Cartelli, winning the season. She is returning to the show this fall. Clarkson also hosted the 2018 Billboard Music Awards in May and appeared on NBC’s Red Nose Day Special.
Studios are gearing up for 2019 and beyond. There is already at least one major time-slot available with NBCU’s Harry, starring Harry Connick Jr., ending its run after this month. Warner Bros.’ first-run division, Telepictures, has shot a pilot with RuPaul of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other shows with big-name talent are rumored to be in the works as well.
Clarkson came to fame as the winner of the first season of Fox’s American Idol in 2002. Since then, she has released eight studio albums — as well as remixes, extended plays and other recordings — that have gone to sell more than 25 million copies worldwide and more than 45 million singles. She has won three Grammys, three MTV Video Music Awards, four American Music Awards and two Academy of Country Music Awards.
She is married to talent manager Brandon Blackstock and they have two children together, River Rose and Remy Alexander, along with Blackstock’s two children from a previous marriage.
STXfilms said Kelly Clarkson has signed on to star in Uglydolls, its animated feature film based on the plush doll franchise. STX Entertainment snagged rights to the brand and is also prepping an animated TV series which will stream exclusively on Hulu.
Clarkson, with more than 25 million albums sold since winning the first American Idol, has been set to voice the lead character of “Moxy” and also perform original songs the feature, in which Moxy and her UglyDolls friends confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don’t have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most.
Uglydolls previously set Pitbull for the voice cast (he also will contribute original songs) and already staked out a May 10, 2019 release date.
Created as a plush toy line by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, the Uglydoll brand quickly gained a cult following around the world and was named Toy of the Year by the Toy Industry Association in 2006. Uglydoll characters are distinct for their endearing “ugliness,” in a wonderful “uglyverse” where differences are celebrated and embraced.
Clarkson returns to the judging panel of NBC’s The Voice this fall for the series’ 15th season. She is repped by CAA and Starstruck Entertainment.
Kelly Clarkson has finally addressed her recent weight loss.
On Thursday, Extra published an interview with the singer, 36, who revealed her weight fluctuation was due to a thyroid disorder.
“I literally read this book, and I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had and I had a thyroid issue, and now all my levels are back up. I’m not on medicine anymore because of this book” said Clarkson, referring to The Plant Paradox by Steven R. Gundry, a cardiac surgeon. “It’s basically about how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic.”
Clarkson said exercise did not contribute to her recent slim-down.
“I’m not working out! I think people think I’m working out and I’m like, ‘Don’t think I’m going to come play some sport!’” she said, adding: “Literally, I haven’t worked out at all!”
Clarkson flaunted her svelte figure on the latest season of The Voice. When previously asked about her weight loss, the Grammy winner coyly responded with quips.
“I have to shout out my whole glam squad,” Clarkson joked of her sleek physique after The Voice finale last month. “I literally hired Harry Potter and SPANX; it’s all like a sausage.”
Before she opened up about her slim-down, the “Love So Soft” singer credited her glam squad for her new look and revealed she’s been having fun experimenting with her style.
“I feel like it’s like the mom makeover on the TODAY show. I walk in and then I walk out and I’m like, ‘Damn!’” she told PEOPLE in May. “I would love to take any credit for anything that’s happening with the glam squad, but my team is insane.”
Kelly is in attendance tonight at the CMT Awards. She looks absolutely lovely and fierce. She is set to perform tonight so be sure to tune in. I’ve added photos to the gallery and will add more photos and videos within the next 24 hours. Enjoy.
Fifteen-year-old Brynn Cartelli is the youngest winner in the history of The Voice, but she has a pretty good mentor — Kelly Clarkson! The “Piece by Piece” singer knows a thing or two about vocal competitions, and she shared some of her words of wisdom for the newly minted star at a press conference following the show’s finale.
First and foremost, Clarkson, 36, stressed the importance of a good single to announce your arrival in the pop world.
“You have to capitalize on the momentum. It’s amazing that she’s already got all these songwriters and producers that are into her,” she told reporters. “It’s amazing that she’s already, by the way, an amazing songwriter, as well. So to have this young, gifted girl make [her new] album, while this single, ‘Walk My Way‘ is coming out bridging that gap, is going to be pretty key.”
But business strategy aside, Clarkson also gave her tips on how to stay sane throughout the dizzying ascent to global fame.
“I always tell her to stop and enjoy it, and don’t get too overwhelmed. It’s good to keep the momentum, but not to be miserable. I didn’t have anybody tell me that, so I’m constantly annoying her with this message: ‘It’s not worth it unless you’re having a good time.’ None of it is worth it. Any job would be better. It is not worth it. It is hard. It is a lot of work.”
Cartelli also echoed the sentiment from Clarkson. “The biggest lesson I learned from Kelly is, as she said, to have fun with this and not let it steal everything from you,” she told reports after the finale. “It is important to stay grounded and keep that normalcy in your life. She has definitely taught me that.”
The freshman admitted that it’s “going to be weird going back” to her high school studies. “Balancing it all has been very hard for me, but it is definitely worth it to know this is in the forefront of my life right now and I want to continue that.”
Clarkson revealed that she sees a lot of herself in the strong-willed young singer — and the qualities will serve her well throughout the course of her musical life.
“Everybody in this industry since the beginning of my career has been telling me to kind of not be me,” she says. “It’s like, ‘We want you to do something else.’ I think the reason why I’m still here is because I am me, and I don’t really care either way. I love myself and it’s cool if you dig it, it’s cool if you don’t, I’m totally down either way. She has that same attitude, and that’s why we really get along.”
While she cautions Cartelli about leaning on people who only stand to benefit from her success, Clarkson made it clear that she’ll stan for her any day of the week.
“I am excited to just be her cheerleader. I don’t need anything from her. I just desire for her to be successful and most of all happy — because I wasn’t happy for a long time, and I think it was because I didn’t have anybody constantly checking in. I hope that I am that for her.”
I’ve added hundreds of new photos of Kelly from tonight’s appearance at the Billboard Awards. She hosted and performed and was AMAZING. While hosting she addressed the Santa Fe shooting. Check out a snippet from the press about it. You can also see videos and photos of her at the award show below. Enjoy!
Tearful Kelly Clarkson Opens Billboard Music Awards with Tribute to Santa Fe Shooting Victims
Kelly Clarkson opened the 2018 Billboard Music Awards with a powerful tribute to her home state.
The show’s host shed tears as she honored the 10 victims of Friday’s school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas. “I’m a Texas girl and my home state has had so much heartbreak over this past year. Once again, y’all, we’re grieving more kids that have died for absolutely no reason at all,” Clarkson said as the MGM Grand venue was lit black.
“Tonight they wanted me to say that obviously, we want to pray for all the victims and families. They also wanted me to do a moment of silence and I’m so sick of moments of silence. It’s not working, obviously.”
“Why don’t we stop moments of silence and do a moment of action? Why don’t we do a moment of change? Change what’s happening, because it’s horrible. Mommas and daddies should be able to send their kids to school, to church, to movie theaters, to clubs. You should be able to live your life without that fear,” the mother of four said.
“So people need to do better. We are failing our children, we’re failing our communities. We’re failing their families. I have four children. I can’t imagine getting that phone call or knock on the door. So instead of a moment of silence, I want to respect them and honor them with tonight y’all in your community, where you live, your friends, everybody. Let’s have a moment of action, let’s have a moment of change.”
Also in her opening monologue, Clarkson reemphasized her call to action.
“I’m not going to try and cry anymore. I hate talking about it but you have to talk about it or no change is going to happen,” she said.
“What am I doing here you’re asking, me too. I don’t know but someone’s getting fired y’all but it ain’t me because I’m under contract,” Clarkson quipped as she began her opening jokes.
“I get it hosts, people who generally host, they’re comedians like Amy Schumer, she’s awesome, Chris Rock, he’s awesome. Tonight you’re just getting me. And I’m a singer and this is obviously new for me so be nice and if you’re gonna be mean at least be funny,” she continued.
“I’ve decided that tonight I’m just going to be who I really am at these shows and I’m a big fan y’all, I love all these artists,” Clarkson said as she waved to Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato.
