Press/Video: Inside Kelly Clarkson’s Talk Show

Kelly Clarkson is already getting to work on her daytime talk show. ET has learned that the 36-year-old singer filmed her pilot episode at NBC Universal Studios in Los Angeles on Friday. According to an observer, the stage for Clarkson’s show is dressed to look like the inside of a barn, with string lights decorating the set and wooden beams with gold records on the walls. The show’s band was set up in the corner.

Clarkson started off the taping with a Cardi B cover and, per the observer, she will be doing her own rendition of a popular song at the top of every show. During the test run, The Voice judge explained that she “wanted to make a show that addresses real people with real issues.”

Her first celebrity guests included Chloe Grace Moretz, Josh Groban and Terry Crews, as well as a group of quilting ladies from North Carolina, a homeless shelter employee and a couple who was having trouble in the bedroom. The talk show featured games, singing segments and interviews that ranged from silly to sentimental, with the observer noting, “She’s definitely still Kelly.” There was also a separate guest live audience, who were watching from a salon in Chicago and commented throughout the whole show.

It wasn’t all work and no play for Clarkson, the observer notes, as her husband, Brandon Blackstock, and their two children — 4-year-old daughter River and 2-year-old son Remington — were there supporting her.

A source told ET earlier this week that the American Idol alum was working on a daytime talk show for NBCUniversal Television Distribution that would be slated for fall 2019. The show is part of Clarkson’s overall deal with NBC, which also includes her return as a coach for season 15 of The Voice.

Clarkson has always embraced all the new paths her career has taken, telling ET last year that, in the entertainment industry, “you’re either not working at all or you’re working every day and every hour.”

“You just want to make sure you’re happy and you love what you’re doing,” the “Since You Been Gone” singer expressed. “I love my life.”

Press: Kelly Clarkson Defends Her Gay Fans in Inspiring Tweet: ‘Love Shared Between Two People Should Be Praised’

Ever since winning the very first season of American Idol, pop singer Kelly Clarkson has been an outspoken ally to the LGBTQ community. Whether she was supporting contestants during her stint as a judge on The Voice, including a gay couple in her “Tie It Up” video or just acknowledging her queer fans, Clarkson has always made it a point to be there for the LGBTQ community.

Part of being a supportive ally means standing up for marginalized communities when they are being attacked, and Clarkson certainly didn’t shy away from that task on Monday (August 20). A commenter responded to the singer’s support of two of her fans’ same-sex wedding, using homophobic slurs and calling homosexuality “a sin any way you cut it.”

Instead of ignoring the comment, Clarkson decided to make an example out of the tweet, retweeting and commenting on the post herself. “I almost didn’t respond 2 this because hate doesn’t deserve a spotlight but u know what, truth does,” she wrote. “The truth is that God is Love, & Love shared between two people should be praised not condemned in my personal opinion. I love u 2 although we see the world/love differently.”

Fans immediately praised Clarkson not only for standing up for two of her queer fans, but for handling the situation properly without putting anyone else down. The fan who was being attacked thanked the “Breakaway” singer, saying, “I saw that comment and was going to say something, but it wouldn’t have been as nice as you just put it,” she wrote. “Thank you for standing up for ‘us’ and more importantly, for what you believe in.”

Press: Kelly Clarkson Prepping Syndicated Daytime Talk Show

The Grammy winner recently inked a talent deal with NBC Entertainment.

NBC is shooting a talk-show pilot with The Voice star Kelly Clarkson that would potentially be shopped for a fall 2019 debut, confirmed sources close to the company.

Clarkson has a talent deal with NBC Entertainment, which now oversees NBCUniversal Television Distribution, including all first-run development for TV stations. That said, the show could potentially be offered to TV stations in syndication or it could air on another platform or in combination.

Earlier this year, Clarkson began a run on The Voice, starring alongside other judges Adam Levine, Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton with her team and her hand-selected talent, 15-year-old Brynn Cartelli, winning the season. She is returning to the show this fall. Clarkson also hosted the 2018 Billboard Music Awards in May and appeared on NBC’s Red Nose Day Special.

Studios are gearing up for 2019 and beyond. There is already at least one major time-slot available with NBCU’s Harry, starring Harry Connick Jr., ending its run after this month. Warner Bros.’ first-run division, Telepictures, has shot a pilot with RuPaul of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other shows with big-name talent are rumored to be in the works as well.

Clarkson came to fame as the winner of the first season of Fox’s American Idol in 2002. Since then, she has released eight studio albums — as well as remixes, extended plays and other recordings — that have gone to sell more than 25 million copies worldwide and more than 45 million singles. She has won three Grammys, three MTV Video Music Awards, four American Music Awards and two Academy of Country Music Awards.

She is married to talent manager Brandon Blackstock and they have two children together, River Rose and Remy Alexander, along with Blackstock’s two children from a previous marriage.

Press: Kelly Clarkson To Lead Voice Cast Of STX’s ‘Uglydolls’ Movie

STXfilms said Kelly Clarkson has signed on to star in Uglydolls, its animated feature film based on the plush doll franchise. STX Entertainment snagged rights to the brand and is also prepping an animated TV series which will stream exclusively on Hulu.

Clarkson, with more than 25 million albums sold since winning the first American Idol, has been set to voice the lead character of “Moxy” and also perform original songs the feature, in which Moxy and her UglyDolls friends confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don’t have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most.

Uglydolls previously set Pitbull for the voice cast (he also will contribute original songs) and already staked out a May 10, 2019 release date.

Created as a plush toy line by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, the Uglydoll brand quickly gained a cult following around the world and was named Toy of the Year by the Toy Industry Association in 2006. Uglydoll characters are distinct for their endearing “ugliness,” in a wonderful “uglyverse” where differences are celebrated and embraced.

Clarkson returns to the judging panel of NBC’s The Voice this fall for the series’ 15th season. She is repped by CAA and Starstruck Entertainment.

Press: Kelly Clarkson Opens Up About Weight Loss, Says It Was Due to ‘Clean Eating’ and ‘Thyroid Issue’

Kelly Clarkson has finally addressed her recent weight loss.

On Thursday, Extra published an interview with the singer, 36, who revealed her weight fluctuation was due to a thyroid disorder.

“I literally read this book, and I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had and I had a thyroid issue, and now all my levels are back up. I’m not on medicine anymore because of this book” said Clarkson, referring to The Plant Paradox by Steven R. Gundry, a cardiac surgeon. “It’s basically about how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic.”

Clarkson said exercise did not contribute to her recent slim-down.

“I’m not working out! I think people think I’m working out and I’m like, ‘Don’t think I’m going to come play some sport!’” she said, adding: “Literally, I haven’t worked out at all!”

Clarkson flaunted her svelte figure on the latest season of The Voice. When previously asked about her weight loss, the Grammy winner coyly responded with quips.

“I have to shout out my whole glam squad,” Clarkson joked of her sleek physique after The Voice finale last month. “I literally hired Harry Potter and SPANX; it’s all like a sausage.”

Before she opened up about her slim-down, the “Love So Soft” singer credited her glam squad for her new look and revealed she’s been having fun experimenting with her style.

“I feel like it’s like the mom makeover on the TODAY show. I walk in and then I walk out and I’m like, ‘Damn!’” she told PEOPLE in May. “I would love to take any credit for anything that’s happening with the glam squad, but my team is insane.”
